Do you like cannabis? Of course, you do! How about chocolate? That’s what we thought. Now here’s the good news…we have put together a few tried and true recipes and ways to combine two of your favorites into a delectable treat you won’t want to put down (just don’t overdo it).
Fact is, both cannabis AND chocolate go together with a lot of our favorite dishes, foods, snacks and treats. This guide will help you learn how to infuse your chocolate so that you can effectively combine the two into any number of recipes (but don’t worry, we’ll also give you a few of our own favorites at the end).
Chocolate goes well with almost every kind of food (and quite a few drinks as well). When it comes to this sweet treat, the diversity of its use is quite literally mind-blowing. But how could anyone improve on such a popular snack? Life is always just a little bit better with a generous helping of our favorite herb: cannabis.
Best of all? Cannabis-infused chocolate is so simple to make that you’ll wonder why you never thought of it before. All you need is a cannabutter machine.
Frankly put, you don’t have to be a baking champion to pull off this taste-bud pleasing, nerve relieving, snack. And there is no reason you should shy away from giving it a try. Invite a few friends over and make a night of it.
Now, without further delay, let’s take a look at how to make cannabis-infused chocolate on your own…
First up, a little scavenger hunt. Trust us when we say that a bit of preparation will make your job a whole lot easier.
So, before you get started, we need you to hunt down the following ingredients and tools/utensils…
Ingredients
3 to 5 grams of high-quality Bud
100 grams of chocolate
Pro Tip: You can use whatever kind of chocolate you prefer. This recipe will work with dark, milk, and even white chocolate. However, we DO recommend that you use a chocolate that has a high cocoa content. Chocolate of around 70% cocoa or higher is perfect for this recipe.
Cooking Tools
Pro Tip: Make sure the glass bowl you plan on using will sit over your pot without touching the water beneath it. You will be using these two tools to create a double boiler. If you happen to own a double boiler already, feel free to use that in place of the glass bowl and pot.
Step By Step Directions
You didn’t think we were going to leave you hanging, did you? Follow the directions below for a quick and easy step by step process that will end with your taste buds lighting up like a Christmas tree!
Before mixing your choice bud into the chocolate, you are going to want to decarboxylate your weed. This may sound like a big complex word, but it’s actually very simple to do. When you decarboxylate cannabis, you activate the THC and CBD in the plant. If you were to skip this step and add raw weed to the chocolate, the effects of your edible would be minimal at best.

Step One
Set your oven to a balmy, but not overly hot 240°F (115°C). While the oven preheats, take this time to line your baking tray with parchment paper.
Step Two
Next, spread your cannabis out over the lined baking tray. Once the oven has finished preheating, place the tray into the oven. Bake for about 30-45 minutes. Check on your bud after 30 minutes to see if it has finished toasting. How will you know? You want the weed to look dry and slightly toasted (but not burnt). If you touch it (with a utensil, NOT your hand) you will notice it has a little bit of a dry crunching sound to it. Once it’s finished baking, remove the tray from the oven and let it cool.
Step Three
Grab your H2O and fill your pot halfway to the top with water. Place the pot on the stove-top and put your glass bowl over it. The bottom of your glass bowl shouldn’t touch the water underneath it.
Step Four
Turn the burner to medium-low heat and place your chocolate in the glass bowl. The steam from the water will slowly heat the chocolate, melting it gently without burning it. Pretty cool trick huh?
Step Five
While the chocolate is melting, you can use this time to grind up your decarboxylated bud. Keep in mind that you need to grind it down as finely as possible. Ideally, you’ll want it to have an almost powder consistency when you’re done. For this step, you can use a hand grinder, food processor, or coffee grinder to achieve the right consistency.
Step Six
Once your chocolate is completely melted smooth (there should be no chunks left in the bowl), you will remove it from the heat and mix in your finely ground cannabis.
The grind of your weed needs to be fine so that there are no clumps of cannabis chunking up the chocolate. Once you are done mixing, you now have cannabis-infused chocolate!
Chocolate and weed work well together. The sweetness of the chocolate will help mask the cannabis flavor, making your treats a lot more enjoyable. However, even though you’ll want to overindulge, remember that your chocolate is now psychoactive.
You will want to pay attention to dosing, edibles can be potent and take a while to kick in. It’s a good idea to wait 45 minutes - 2 hours for your cannabis-infused chocolate to take effect and to determine if you need more.
Melted chocolate has many uses, and the limitations are only set by your imagination. Let’s look at three ways you can use your bowl of chocolate.
One way you can use your melted mix is to pour it into molds. Any candy mold will do, and they are available in a wide variety of fun sizes and shapes. If you don’t have a chocolate mold, you can use an ice-cube tray instead. Just know that an ice-cube tray is going to render larger chocolate cubes.
Pro Tip: Want to get fancy? Consider placing a caramel cube, cherry or other small surprise treats into the middle of the chocolate mold before pouring in the chocolate. Place in the refrigerator or freezer to harden before serving and watch your guests’ eyes light up with delight when they bite into your homemade chocolates.
Step One
Pour your chocolate into the mold and tap it against the table a few times to remove any air bubbles. If you would like to add little candies to the molds, do so before the chocolate rehardens.
Step Two
Let your mold sit and cool in the fridge, allowing the chocolate to set-up.
*Allowing chocolate to set-up means giving it time to reharden.
Step Three
Remove the molds from the fridge and pop the chocolates out onto a hard surface.
Your liquid chocolate can be used to coat your favorite snacks. Two common strategies are to fully submerge the treat in the chocolate, or dip it in only halfway, creating a ½ and ½ effect.
Consider the following options to get your creative juices flowing:
After dipping them in the chocolate, place the snack on some wax paper and allow it to set up in the fridge. Once the chocolate hardens, you will have cannabis-infused chocolate-coated snacks.
If you have a mold that allows you to make chocolate chips it will open up your baking options. After making cannabis-infused chocolate chips, you can use them like you would any other chips. You can put them in cookies, brownies, or even muffins. Anything you would use melted chocolate in, you can substitute with your infused chocolate. The ideas are endless, it just comes down to what you want to do with it.
Part of the fun of chocolate is that when melted you can drizzle it over just about anything. From cookies to popcorn, and even potato chips (we know it sounds odd but trust us its delish).
Now that you know how to make cannabis-infused chocolate, you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
It’s been said that both chocolate and weed have an aphrodisiac effect when consumed, making cannabis-infused treats perfect for “date night” or a romantic evening with your partner (just make sure they know it has cannabis in it first).
Research has also revealed that both chocolate and cannabis can result in an increase in the release of serotonin in the body. So if you’ve had a stressful day, you can treat yourself to a combination that is sure to help you unwind.
